Well, Hello.

This afternoon I was greeted by an elderly Indian woman, she said "Bonsoir." What she really said to me was "Welcome to Pondicherry."

Pondicherry, now Puducherry, is divided north/south by a canal. The easterly side of the canal, that toward the water (Bay of Bengal) is known as the French quarter, the remains of the French colony from nearly 50 years ago. That to the west is known as the Indian or Tamil Quarter. The difference in environment immediately after crossing the canal is jarring.

Where the other half of the whole is, is a mystery.
