Elephanta Day

I made the mistake of playing tourist today. Although I got to see Elephanta Island and meet some nice Punjabi men, the name of the game was certainly rape the tourist of everything they have. It was neat though, the island that is, with all it's caves and monkeys.

Gateway of India with Taj Majal Hotel in the back.

Elephant ferry boats.

I saw this woman checking out some monkeys checking out each other.

This one snarled at me.

This rather boring photo cost me 10Rs.

Oh no, pho-to.

Inside Cave 1.

Sitting atop Cave 2.

I think this may require extra explanation. The cave which Elephanta Island is famous for sit 2/3rds up the island. I heard three different times of the last ferry ranging over a hour in difference. This was the mass exodus for the early "last ferry". Turns out it was the only last ferry.

As a side note I also heard that if you stay later, a woman in a near by village will take you back to the mainland in a little boat for the cost of 400Rs.

Setting sun. Bombay faint in the back.

I think we actually just studied those caves you went to in Architecture class. Pretty nuts.
